Jets Hosting QB Robert Griffin III For A Visit, Meeting Continuing Saturday

Update:

Albert Breer reports that free agent QB Robert Griffin III had dinner with the Jets Friday night and will continue his meeting into Saturday at their team facility.

However, Breer adds that the Jets’ focus remains on re-signing free agent QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, but they want to have some contingency options in place.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Jets are bringing in QB Robert Griffin III for a visit.

A source tells Josina Anderson of the move: “We are doing our due diligence evaluating our options. Fitz is still the focus.

This is the first visit for RGIII since he was cut loose earlier in the week.

Griffin, 25, was in the final year of his four-year, $21,119,098 rookie contract when Washington elected to pick up his fifth-year option worth $16.2 million last year.

However, they elected to bench him and make RGIII their third-string quarterback to prevent him from getting injured, which would have made his $16.2 million in 2016 fully guaranteed.

Washington just recently cut him loose.

In 2014, Griffin appeared in nine games and threw for 1,694 yards while completing 68.7 percent of his passes to go along with four touchdowns and six interceptions.

We have him featured in our Top 2016 Free Agents list.
