Jets Chances Of Re-Signing LaRon Landry Are “Remote”

ESPN NewYork.com’s Rich Cimini writes that the chances of safety LaRon Landry returning to the Jets next season are “remote.”

“The chances of that happening are remote,” Cimini writes. “They can’t use the franchise tag on him, per a clause in the one-year contract he signed last March, and it’s unlikely they’d be able to afford him.”

Landry, 28, suffered a torn Achilles two season ago and was listed as a below-average safety by Pro Football Focus.

Cimini notes that Landry’s contract prevents the Jets from using the franchise tag on him next season and it’s not as though the Jets have the cap space to make a competitive offer during free agency.

Landry was hoping to secure a long-term contract last year, but was forced to take a one-year deal from the Jets. It’s safe to assume he’ll be targeting a multi-year deal this offseason.

We have Landry ranked 79th on our list of Top 100 free agents.
