Jets Claim DL Mike Pennel Off Waivers From Packers

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Jets have claimed DL Mike Pennel off of waivers from the Packers on Monday.

Pennel settled his appeal/lawsuit over a substance-abuse violation and served a four-game suspension this past season.

His suspension stemmed from further discipline he was facing under substance abuse policy. Pennel had an appeal date scheduled for December 6 but he requested that the court assign a new arbitrator after contending that there was a conflict of interest involving arbitrator James Carter.

Pennel previously served a four-game suspension at the start of this season for a substance abuse violation.

Pennel, 25, wound up signing on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State-Pueblo back in 2014. He was waived close to a month ago and had been on waivers until today.

In 2016, Pennel has appeared in eight games and recorded seven tackles and no sacks for the Packers. He also contributed one pass defense.
