Jets Claim OT Tony Garcia Off Waivers From Patriots

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Jets have claimed OT Tony Garcia off of waivers from the Patriots on Monday.

Garcia, 24, was drafted by the Patriots with the No. 85 overall pick in the third round of the 2017 draft after they elected to trade up from No. 96 with the Lions. In total, the Patriots gave up a third- and fourth-round pick for the right to take Garcia.

Garcia is currently in the second year of his four-year, $3.3-million contract and stands to make base salaries of $555,000 and $645,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

Unfortunately, Garcia missed his entire rookie season due to blood clots in his lungs. However, recent reports have said that he has been cleared to return.

The Patriots waived Garcia with a non-football injury last week.

During his four-year college career at Troy, Garcia earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors last season and received an All-Sun Belt honorable mention in 2015.
