Jets Claim TE Jerome Cunningham Off Waivers, Cut RB Dri Archer

The New York Jets announced Monday that they’ve claimed TE Jerome Cunningham off of waivers from the Giants.

  • The Jets placed RB Dri Archer on waivers to make room for their new addition.

Cunningham, 24, originally signed on with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Connecticut Stat back in 2014. He was unfortunately unable to make the 53-man roster that year, but was later added to their practice squad.

Cunningham was able to make the team in 2015 coming out of the preseason, but he lasted just a few months before he was waived and later added to their practice squad.

The Giants waived him last week.

In 2015, Cunningham appeared nine games and recorded eight catches for 59 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

Archer, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Steelers. He was in the second year of his four-year, $2.7 million rookie contract that included a $506,016 signing bonus when the Steelers cut him back in November to make room for WR Jacoby Jones, who was claimed off of waivers.

The Jets elected to sign him to a future/reserve contract in February.

In 2015, Archer appeared in eight games and total 354 kick return yards for the Steelers.
