Jets Claim TE Will Tye Off Waivers From Giants

The Jets have claimed former Giants TE Will Tye off of waivers, according to Field Yates.

Tye, 25, wound up signing on with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Stony Brook back in 2015. He was unable to make the team coming out of the preseason but was later signed to the team’s practice squad.

The Giants elected to bring Tye back last year on an exclusive rights contract and he worked his way into a much larger role in the team’s offense. They brought him back on an exclusive rights contract this offseason but elected to waive him yesterday when trimming their roster down to the 53-man limit.

In 2016, Tye appeared in all 16 games and caught 48 passes for 395 yards receiving and a touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 61 tight end out of 63 qualifying players.
