Jets Have Been In Contact With Reps For QB Josh McCown

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Jets touched base with the reps for free agent QB Josh McCown in recent days.

Earlier in the day, Rapoport reported that that the Jets have been in contact with free agent QB Jay Cutler and are keeping tabs on him right now. According to Rapoport, you can expect the Jets to bring Cutler in for a visit at some point, as they explore their options at quarterback.

Other speculative quarterback options for the Jets that have been tossed out include Broncos QB Trevor Siemian if they sign Tony Romo, Colin Kaepernick and Geno Smith.

The Eagles are expected to released Chase Daniel at some point in the near future, so he too could be someone to keep an eye on for the Jets.

McCown, 37, is a former third-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2002. He’s played for several teams over the course of his career including the Lions, Raiders, Dolphins, Panthers, 49ers, Bears, Buccaneers and most recently for the Browns.

McCown was entering the final year of his three-year, $14 million contract when the Browns released him in a move that freed up $4,375,000 in available cap space while creating $666,668 in dead money.

In 2016, McCown threw for 1100 yards while completing 54.5 percent of his passes to go along with six touchdowns and six interceptions over the course of five games.
