Jets Get Down To 53 Players

Update:

The New York Jets have announced 22 roster moves to get down to 53 players before today’s deadline.

The Jets cut:

The Jets also placed RB Stevan Ridley on the PUP list and OL Oday Aboushi and DL Sheldon Richardson on the reserve/suspension list.

Flynn, 30, signed on with the Jets to a one-year contract just in August, so his stay in New York was very short lived. In his seven year career, Flynn has performed with the Packers and Seahawks, while having short stints with the Raiders, Patriots, and the Jets.

Without Flynn, the Jets are prepared to move forward with Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith, and Bryce Petty as their quarterbacks.

Manish Mehta reports that the Jets are releasing veteran OLB Jason Babin, as they trim their roster down to 53 players.

The Jets have also cut:

Babin, 34, signed a two-year, $3.25 million contract with the Jets last July and will make a base salary of $1.35 million for the 2015 season. The Jets elected to pick up his option back in February.

In 2014, Babin recorded 26 tackles and two sacks over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has Babin rated as the No. 9 outside linebacker in 3-4 defense out of 46 qualifying players.

The New York Jets have begun the process of cutting their roster down to 53 players on Saturday with the release of veteran LB Joe Mays, according to Josina Anderson.

Mays, 28, one-year, $950,000 contract with the Jets back in April.

In 2014, Mays appeared in eight games and recorded 20 tackles and a fumble recovery for the Chiefs. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing 122 total snaps last year.
