Jets DC Kacy Rodgers May Have Extended Absence While He Deals With Serious Illness

On Friday, Jets HC Todd Bowles announced that DC Kacy Rodgers is dealing with what a “serious” illness.

“Coach Rodgers couldn’t do his interviews today because he is ill of a nature we can’t discuss right now,” Bowles said. “We’ll see going forward where he is, and go from there, so he won’t be here today and he was not at practice.

“He’s a tough guy,” Bowles added. “It’s a serious thing.

Mike Garafolo reports that it sounds like this could be an extended absence for Rodgers as he focuses on his health.

Rodgers, obviously, will not coach during Sunday’s game against the Broncos and the expectation is that Bowles will call defensive plays.

Rodgers, 49, began his NFL coaching career with the Cowboys as their DTs coach back in 2003. After five years in Dallas, he departed for a job with the Dolphins before joining Todd Bowles in New York as his defensive coordinator for the 2015 season.

We wish Rodgers the best in his recovery.
