Jets Defensive Coordinator Turns Down Contract Extension

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, sources have informed him that Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine has turned down a contract extension from the team.

Pettine will now become a free agent after the season and has reportedly drawn interest from teams looking to fill head coaching vacancies in the past. If the were to lose Pettine, it would almost certainly have an immediate impact on the team’s defense, which is actually one of their few areas of strength.

The fact that Pettine turned down the Jets offer seems like a pretty clear indication that the team’s recent struggles have impacted all aspects of the team’s foundation.
