Jets DL Sheldon Richardson Wins Defensive Rookie Of The Year

Jets DL Sheldon Richardson is the winner of the 2014 Defensive Rookie Of The Year award.

Richardson finished with 23 votes with Bills LB Kiko Alonso coming in second place with 19 votes. Saints S Kenny Vaccaro received four votes while Cardinals S Tyrann Mathieu and Panthers DT Star Lotulelei both finished with two votes.

Richardson quickly established himself as one of the best run-stoppers in the league during his first year in the league.

He totaled 77 tackles to go along with 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Those stats really don’t show his true impact as a defender. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 qualifying 3-4 defensive end this year.
