Jets Officially Sign CB Morris Claiborne To One-Year, $5M Deal

Update:

The New York Jets announced that they have officially signed CB Morris Claiborne to a contract.

—————

Adam Schefter is reporting that the Jets are expected to sign former Cowboys CB Morris Claiborne to a contract.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the Jets are signing Claiborne to a one-year contract worth $5 million, which is more than what Dallas was offering him.

Claiborne was linked to the Ravens with veteran CB Brandon Carr mentioned as an option for the Jets. However, it appears as though they were both impacting one another to some degree.

Claiborne has dealt with injuries over the course of his career, but he’s coming off of solid 2016 season and fits an obvious need for the Jets.

Claiborne, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract with Dallas before returning to the team on a one-year, $3 million back in March of last year.

In 2016, Claiborne appeared in seven games for the Cowboys and recorded 26 tackles, one interception, a fumble recovery, and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 12 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
