According to Jenna Laine, free agent LB Bruce Carter is expected to sign with the Jets, barring an unforeseen change in circumstance.

Carter has visited with the Jets, Lions and Bills all this week, but it sounds like the Jets could be his best opportunity.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Carter to a contract wouldn’t factor into a team’s 2017 compensatory picks.

Carter, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract before signing on with the Buccaneers in March of last year.

Carter was in the second year of his four-year, $17 million contract when he was released in a move that freed up $4,250,000 in available cap space for the Buccaneers right before the start of free agency.

In 2015, Carter appeared in 14 games and recorded 47 tackles, two sacks, and two pass defenses for the Buccaneers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 68 linebacker out of 97 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Best Available Free Agents list.
