Jets Expected To Hire Dolphins DL Coach Kacy Rodgers As Defensive Coordinator

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that new Jets HC Todd Bowles is expected to hire Dolphins DL coach Kacy Rodgers as the team’s new defensive coordinator.

This fits with reports from Tuesday night that had said Rodgers was a likely target for the Jets. Although, there was some talk that Cardinals LBs coach Mike Caldwell could be an option for New York as well.

  • Rapoport adds that Caldwell will be on the Jets’ staff, but in a different capacity.

Bowles is likely to have a large say in the defensive scheme given that it’s his area of expertise, but Rodgers has done a great job with the Dolphins defensive line since he was hired back in 2008.

Rodgers helped Cameron Wake become a star in Miami while also developing players like Olivier Vernon, Randy Starks, Paul Soliai and Jared Odrick into solid contributors.

The Jets have plenty of talent up front to work with, so I’m sure Rodgers is very excited about this opportunity.
