Jets Expected To Interview Mike McCarthy For HC Job

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Jets are expected to interview former Packers HC Mike McCarthy for their vacant head coach position.

According to Mike Garafolo, McCarthy is high on, if not at the top of, the Jets’ list of candidates.

The list of reported interviews for the Jets includes:

  • Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy (Requested)
  • Cowboys passing game coordinator/DBs coach Kris Richard (Requested)
  • Buccaneers OC Todd Monken (Requested)
  • Former Lions & Colts HC Jim Caldwell (Expected)
  • Iowa State coach Matt Campbell (Declined)
  • Former Packers HC Mike McCarthy (Expected)

Some recent reports have said that McCarthy could be picky with his next job and there’s at least a chance he could sit out the 2019 season.

The Buccaneers, Browns and Cardinals have all come up as teams to watch for McCarthy, but this is his first interview.

McCarthy, 55, began his NFL coaching career with the Chiefs back in 1993 as an offensive quality control coordinator. He bounced around with the Packers, Saints and 49ers before the Packers hired him as their head coach in 2006.

The Packers made the decision to move on from McCarthy following their disappointing loss to the Cardinals.

During his 13-year tenure in Green Bay, McCarthy has led the Packers to a record of 125-77-2 (61.8 percent), which includes nine playoff appearances and a Super Bowl title in 2010.

  1. I love NFL trade rumors site. But! This is one topic that is really being over done. Mike McCarthy is solely responsible for the evolution of Aaron Rodgers. PERIOD! Mike McCarthy and Sam Darnold are a perfect match. Darnold is a gym rat and loves to study and watch game film. What available head coach has the pedigree and resume of Mike McCarrthy? You got it nobody! The stars are aligning with this meeting. The Jets should have a mini vault present with McCarthy’s likeness etched into it, when the two sides meet.
The Jets’ defense is set, this draft will fix the edge and CB (Claiborne) problems. And don’t forget the nearly $100M in 2019 cap space. This is a win/win situation for Gang Green and Mike McCarthy.
