Update:

The Jets announced the signing of former Chiefs ILB Joe Mays on Monday.

ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that the Jets are expected to sign former Chiefs ILB Joe Mays to a contract.

  • According to Caplan, the two sides are expected to have an agreement in place by early next week.
  • Earlier in the week, Caplan reportedly that the Jets were interested in possibly signing Mays to a contract.

This comes just a few days after a report mentioned that the Jets were signing LB Erin Henderson to a contract, so it appears as though the Jets are looking to bolster their linebacker depth ahead of the draft.

Mays met with the Chargers last month shortly after he was released by the Chiefs in a move that freed up $2.7 million in available cap space.

Mays, 28, unfortunately sustained a wrist injury back in early September that forced Kansas City to place him on injured reserve with the designation to return.

In 2014, Mays appeared in eight games and recorded 20 tackles and a fumble recovery for the Chiefs. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing 122 total snaps last year.
