Jets “Exploring” Free Agent RBs Including Ben Tate & Donald Brown

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York is hearing that the Jets are currently “exploring” free agent running backs to add to their roster.

  • Cimini specifically mentions that Donald Brown (Colts) and Ben Tate (Texans) as two players the team is considering.

According to Cimini, Jets GM John Idzik is a “big believer in competition and depth,” and suggests that Mike Goodson could be “on thin ice” next season.

Cimini adds that both Brown and Tate are above-average backs who are capable of contributing in the position, which is why they could make sense for New York.

The Colts are believed to be interested in re-signing Brown this offseason, but there is a chance he could field offers on the open market and ultimately sign elsewhere.

Tate, 25, has said previously that he does not expect to re-sign with the Texans and all indications are that will reach the open market. Last year, he totaled 771 yards rushing on 181 carries (4.3 YPC) and four touchdowns over the course of 14 games.

We have both players listed in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
