Jets Fire GM Mike Tannenbaum

The New York Jets have fired GM Mike Tannenbaum.

“Rex Ryan will remain the Head Coach of our football team,” said owner Woody Johnson in a statement. “I believe that he has the passion, the talent, and the drive to successfully lead our team.”

Tannenbaum’s seat was clearly hotter than Ryan’s, as he’s directly responsible for arguably the worst contract in the entire NFL. The Jets roster is in bad shape and their offensive needs help at nearly every position, so it makes sense to find an adequate replacement now.

It’s a little surprising that Ryan kept his job, but he’ll at least get one more shot at proving he’s the right guy for the job.

Early GM candidates for Jets could include: former Bears GM Jerry Angelo, Falcons director of player personnel David Caldwell, Raiders director of player personnel Joey Clinkscales and Jets assistant GM Scott Cohen according to ESPN.com.
