Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets will promote defensive backs coach Dennis Thurman to defensive coordinator next season.
This comes shortly after the Jets announced that Mike Pettine would not be back with the team next season. On top of that, QBs coach Matt Cavanaugh will also be released of his duties.
The Jets are prepared to rework their entire organization, expect for head coach Rex Ryan.
Mehta adds that both Cam Cameron and Norv Turner are possible options to take over as offensive coordinator next season, but also adds that Hue Jackson could be the best fit.

Jets’ HC Rex Ryan confirmed on Tuesday that defensive coordinator Mike Pettine will not be back with the team next season, via Pro Football Talk.
Ryan will however remain the Jets’ head coach for at least one more year.
The Jets have already parted ways with OC Tony Sparano and GM Mike Tannebaum, so they’re obviously looking to remake staff and front office while keeping Ryan in place.
“I don’t think I’ve done as good a job of implementing who I am throughout this team,” Ryan said. “I want physical, aggressive, attack style.”

Chris Mortensen reports that the New York Jets have officially parted ways with OC Tony Sparano.
This comes as little surprise given that Sparano’s offensive unit ranked 30th in yards this season. The Jets reportedly have interest in Norv Turner and Cam Cameron as possible replacements, but there hasn’t been a whole lot of moment regarding coordinators just yet.
Sparano’s been cut loose twice in the last two years, so it may take awhile for him to catch on with another NFL team. Then again, the Jets problems can hardly be pinned to a single person.
