Jets HC Rex Ryan Acknowledges His Job Is In Jeopardy For 2015

With the 2014 season going from bad to worse, New York Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan plainly stated that he will not be coaching the team in 2015 if he doesn’t turn this season around.

If we don’t get this thing on the right track, I don’t think for a minute I’ll be here in 2015“, Ryan said via Rich Cimini.

It hardly seems fair to blame Ryan for the myriad of problems plaguing the Jets.  He has however, had six years with the team, and his control seems to be slipping, as evidenced most recently by QB Geno Smith‘s absence during a team meeting.

The Jets opened the season with a win over the Raiders, but have lost four straight since, including a 31-0 rout at the hands of the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.

It does bode well for the Jets however, that Ryan appears to understand why he is on the hot seat.  Ryan boldly said “I’m not afraid of it,” when referring to his potential firing.  Ryan accepting responsibility could spare the franchise an entire overhaul of the front office, and insulate second-year GM John Idzik.

Ryan would certainly be an attractive candidate as a defensive coordinator should he find himself unemployed.  But with the Jets struggling mightily, it is difficult to imagine he can salvage the season.

Considering the media circus that has enveloped the Jets in recent years, it seems very unlikely that Ryan will return to New York in 2015.
