Jets HC Todd Bowles Facing Uphill Battle To Keep Job

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Jets HC Todd Bowles faces an uphill battle to keep his job after the 2018 season.

However, Rapoport adds that no decision is expected to be made until the season ends, so Bowles will get the full season to show what he can do.

The Jets are coming off of a terrible 41-10 loss to the Bills and Rapoport says that it has caused serious questions about whether Bowles is the man to lead it all going forward.

The reason Bowles is safe during the season, according to Rapoport, is in part because the Jets are embracing a patient and prudent approach and the fact that there is no obvious successor in the building.

As other reports have said, Jets GM Mike Maccagnan is believed to be much safer than Bowles, according to Rapoport.

Interestingly enough, Rapoport mentions that if Bowles is fired, he’s still expected to garner interest as a head coaching candidate and likely get interviews with team.

Bowles, 54, began his NFL coaching career with the Packers back in 1995 as a player personnel staff member before working for a number of teams including the Jets, Browns, Cowboys, Dolphins, Eagles and Cardinals.

The Jets hired Bowles as their head coach for the 2015 season and signed him to an extension last through 2020 last year.

During his four years as Jets’ head coach, Bowles has led the team to a record of 23-35 (39.7 percent) and no playoff appearances.
