Osi Umenyiora Did Not Have A Formal Visit With Jets

Update:

Connor Hughes reports that DE Osi Umenyiora did not have a formal visit with the Jets on Wednesday, despite reports.

In fact, Jets GM Mike Maccagnan didn’t even know Umenyiora was there until he was asked about him. Apparently, Umenyiora stopped by on his way to the airport to say high to new HC Todd Bowles, per Manish Mehta.

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that DE  Osi Umenyiora was back in New York on Wednesday visiting with the Jets.

It’s interesting to hear that the Jets are taking a look at Umenyiora, given that they employ a 3-4 base defense. However, they could use him as a situational pass-rusher in the event he’s willing to accept such a role.

Umenyiora, 33, has played out his two-year, $8.5 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons that included $3.75 million guaranteed, as is now among the most notable players still available in free agency.

In 2014, Umenyiora appeared in all 16 games for the Falcons and recorded 12 tackles, 2.5 sacks, a fumble recovery for a touchdown and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the N0. 22 defensive end in 4-3 defense out of 59 qualifying players, due to him being a decent pass-rusher.
