Jets Inquire About QBs Brian Hoyer & Ryan Mallett

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets have inquired about quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett.

The Jets are obviously looking to bring in competition for Geno Smith to contend with next year. Ryan Fitzpatrick has also come up as a potential target for the Jets, depending on what happens in free agency.

Hoyer, 29, played out his two-year, $1.965 million contract that includes $250,000 guaranteed and is one of the better available players in a limited free agent class of quarterbacks.

Over the course of 14 games, Hoyer has thrown for 3,334 yards while completing 55.4 percent of his passes to go along with 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 35 quarterback out of 39 players.

Mallett, 26, came over from New England in a trade that sent a conditional seventh-round pick to the Patriots in return for him. He played out his four-year, $2,947,828 rookie and will make a base salary of $776,976 for the 2014 season.

In 2014, Mallett appeared in three games and threw for 400 yards while completing 54.7 percent of his passes to go along with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
