Jets Inquired About Trade For Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson, But Deal Unlikely

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets inquired about a trade for Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson in recent days. However, Mehta says that the Cardinals won’t be trading Peterson to the Jets “barring a miracle.”

The Jets have inquired about potential deals for a number of players in recent months, according to reports, so it’s not all that surprising to hear that they reached out to the Cardinals about Peterson.

On Monday, Adam Schefter reported that Peterson has requested that the team trade him before the upcoming deadline. According to Schefter, Peterson feels as if the situation in Arizona has deteriorated and he has reaffirmed to others that he “desperately” wants out.

Schefter adds that the Cardinals continue to insist they’re not trading him while Peterson continues to request a trade.

Both Cardinals owner Michael Bidwell and HC Steve Wilks have said they have no plans to trade Peterson.

Since then, reports have mentioned the Saints, Eagles and Patriots as teams with interest in Peterson. Although, New Orleans acquired Eli Apple earlier in the day, which makes a deal for Peterson seem highly unlikely.

Peterson, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2011. He’s currently in the fifth year of his seven-year, $83.02 million that included $48 million guaranteed and set to make base salaries of $11 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Peterson has appeared in six games for the Cardinals and recorded 29 tackles, one sack, an interception, a fumble recovery and two pass defenses.

We’ll have more regarding Peterson as the news is available.
