Jets Interested In Re-Signing QB Josh McCown, But “Far From Done Deal”

Jets HC Todd Bowles said Monday that they’re interested in re-signing QB Josh McCown, but Rich Cimini says that it’s “far from a done deal.”

Josh had a great year,” Bowles said. “It would be great to have him back. It’s business in this league. He has decisions to make, we have decisions to make. Hopefully, they can meet and we’ll go from there.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports recently reported that McCown is expected to continue his NFL career in 2018, even though he recently told reporters that he was unsure about his football future.

McCown plans to make a final decision after meeting with his family but La Canfora would be “very surprised” if he doesn’t return next year.

According to La Canfora, McCown will be in demand, as there could end up being numerous viable options for him and teams view him as the perfect bridge quarterback capable of helping to develop a rookie quarterback.

Multiple GMs have told La Canfora that McCown could command as much as $10 million or more next year.

McCown’s 2017 season ended after he suffered a season-ending hand fracture that led to him being placed on injured reserve.

McCown, 38, is a former third-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2002. He played for several teams including the Lions, Raiders, Dolphins, Panthers, 49ers, Bears, Buccaneers and Browns before signing a one-year, $6 million contract with the Jets as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2017, McCown appeared in 12 games for the Jets and thrown for 2,880 yards while completing 67.8 percent of his passes to go along with 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 23 quarterback out of 40 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding McCown and the Jets as the news is available.
