Jets May Approach CB Antonio Cromartie About An Extension After The Season

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News makes the case for the Jets to lockup CB Antonio Cromartie at some point next offseason.

Cromartie, 29, has two years remaining on his four-year, $32 million contract. His 2014 cap figure comes in at $14.98 million and the fact that he has been one of the top cornerbacks in recent years should be enough of an incentive to reduce that number while keeping him under contract for the foreseeable future.

If the Jets don’t lock Cromartie up following the season, they would have to spend a staggering $17.74 million to apply the franchise to him, according to Mehta.

Depending on first-round pick Dee Milliner’s development and whether or not they are able to retain Cromartie, the Jets could have a very good cornerback tandem moving forward.
