Jets May Approach WR Santonio Holmes Regarding A Pay Cut

Rich Cimini of ESPN writes that the Jets could ask WR Santonio Holmes to take a pay cut this offseason due to their current salary cap mess.

Holmes, 28, underwent surgery to repair a Lisfranc tear in his foot and subsequently missed 12 games this season. He’ll make $11 million for the next year and, unfortunately for the Jets, $7.5 million of that figure is guaranteed.

Cimini notes that New York would take $11.25 million cap hit by releasing him and still have to pay him the $7.5 million, so we can basically rule that out from happening.

The Jets offensive attack needs all the help they can get, so it makes sense that they would see what Holmes can do next season, but freeing up some much needed cap space in the coming weeks is obviously paramount.
