Ian Rapoport reports that if Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg were to have a vote in the current quarterback competition, it be in favor of starting rookie QB Geno Smith over Mark Sanchez.
- Rapoport adds that Mornhinweg would even support the idea, even if Sanchez was healthy.
ESPN’s Ed Werder mentioned on Friday’s SportsCenter that Sanchez’s shoulder injury could cost him a few weeks, which means Smith could very well get an extended look, depending on how Sanchez recovers.
The consensus belief is that Sanchez offers the Jets the best chance of competing this season, but Smith at least offers some long-term potential, despite his preseason struggles.
