Jets Officially Sign S J.J. Wilcox, Waive LB Freddie Bishop

The New York Jets officially announced the signing of veteran S J.J. Wilcox along with the release of LB Freddie Bishop on Wednesday.

Wilcox traveled to San Francisco on Tuesday with the expectation of signing with the 49ers. However, he changed his mind and instead decided to sign with the Jets.

Wilcox, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2013. He has played out his four-year, $2,811,068 contract with the Cowboys before signing a two-contract with the Buccaneers worth up to $8.5 million.

The Buccaneers traded him to the Steelers at the start of the 2017 season for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Wilcox was set to make a base salary of $3.125 million for the 2018 season when the Steelers released him a few months ago.

In 2017, Wilcox appeared in 12 games for the Steelers and recorded 12 tackles, one interception and a pass defense.
