Jets Pick Up $2.5M Of Cap Space By Reworking CB Buster Skrine’s Contract

Darryl Slater of NJ.com reports that the Jets have restructured the contract of CB Buster Skrine and in the process freed up $2.5 million of cap space.

The Jets accomplished this by giving Skrine a $3.75 million signing bonus, which dropped his 2016 base salary from $6.5 million to $2.75 million.

Skrine’s cap figure was also reduced from $7.754 million to $5.254 million.

Skrine, 27, is a former fifth-round pick of the Browns back in 2011. He signed a four-year, $25 million contract that includes $13 million guaranteed with the Jets back in March of last year and he was set to make a base salary of $6.5 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Skrine appeared in all 16 games for the Jets and recorded 56 tackles, one interception, and six pass defenses.
