Jets Place 6 Players On PUP List Including Muhammad Wilkerson

The New York Jets announced Thursday that they’ve placed six players on the Active/PUP list including: Muhammad Wilkerson, Devin Smith, Khiry Robinson, James Carpenter, Breno Giacomini and Kendall James.

Players placed on the active/PUP list can return to practice once activated. However, if they remain on PUP list to start the regular season, they would miss at least the first six weeks.

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, considering that recent reports mentioned this as a possibility.

Wilkerson, who just signed a five-year extension with the Jets worth $86 million a few weeks ago, is still on track to be ready for the Jets Week 1 match up against the Bengals.

Wilkerson, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract with the team and was in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason before the Jets used their franchise tag on him and surprisingly locked him up to a long-term deal just before the deadline.

In 2015, Wilkerson recorded 59 tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles and six pass defenses over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 defensive end in a 3-4 system out of 57 qualifying players.
