Jets Place Mark Sanchez On IR With Designation To Return

Albert Breer reports that the Jets have placed QB Mark Sanchez on injured reserve with the designation to return.

This means that Sanchez will be out until Week 8 of the NFL season, but also implies that the Jets intend to use Sanchez in some capacity once he’s healthy. After all, the Jets can only use this designation on one player.

Sanchez suffered a torn labrum a weeks ago and despite reports that suggested he could undergo surgery, Sanchez has maintained that he intends to rehab the injury in the coming weeks.

Geno Smith has had some ups and downs in the early part of the season, so there’s a chance they may need some improved quarterback play by the halfway point. Matt Simms and Brady Quinn are also on the Jets roster.
