Jets Players Want Peyton Manning?

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that some Jets players would be open to the idea of adding Peyton Manning as their quarterback.

Come on. That’s a no-brainer,” one Jets source said. “If you have a chance to get a healthy 36-year-old Peyton Manning and you don’t do it, then you’re stupid. If I could get a healthy 36-year-old Peyton Manning, then, hell yeah, I would trade Sanchez.

Not exactly a vote of confidence for Mark Sanchez but then again the team may be beyond that point.

Still in order to get Manning the Colts would have to either trade him to New York or cut him loose. Owner Jim Irsey has said that he plans on keeping Manning if healthy and I tend to believe him on that. I doubt the Colts would want Sanchez in a deal for Manning as they’ll almost certainly draft Andrew Luck in the coming months.

The Jets brought in Manning’s former offensive coordinator, Tom Moore, this season so there’s some familiarity there to build on.

We already have his coach — Tom Moore,” one player noted. “Plus, he’s a field general and will get everyone lined up. He will get his playmakers the ball. We can win a Super Bowl with Peyton.”

The other issue with acquiring Manning is the amount of money that he would be due. Right now the Jets are close to the cap so they’ll have plenty of tough decisions to make even if they’re not trying bring Manning. It’s still a very interesting story non-the-less. We’ll have more when or if the details become available.
