Jets Are Expected To Re-Sign OLB Bryan Thomas

The New York Jets have announced that they have re-signed OLB Bryan Thomas.

Reports from late last week suggested that this was likely to happen today, so it’s really not all that surprising. Thomas figures to see a limited role in the Jets defense moving forward.

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York writes that, “barring something totally unforeseen,” the Jets will end up re-signing OLB Bryan Thomas.

Thomas’ base salary for this season is already guaranteed, so it’s not as though it could complicate their financial situation anymore. Thomas could be back on their roster by the start of next week.

Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News confirms that the New York Jets have released OLB Bryan Thomas.

Thomas, the team’s 1st round pick back in 2002,  had missed the season’s first two games with a hamstring injury and was expected to sit out Sunday’s game against  the Dolphins. He had signed a one-year deal with the team after having only played four games in 2011 because of a torn Achilles tendon.

With Thomas out of the picture, expect former Bills linebacker Aaron Maybin to be more involved in Jets defense this season.
