Jets Release QB Matt Simms

The New York Jets announced the release of QB Matt Simms on Thursday.

The odds were against Simms making the team after the Jets traded for Ryan Fitzpatrick and drafted Baylor QB Bryce Petty.

Simms, 26, signed on with the Jets as an undrafted out of Tennessee back in 2012. He was unable able to make the team’s final 53-man roster coming out of the preseason that year, but later signed a reserve/future deal in December.

In 2014, Simms was signed to the team’s practice squad and wound up appearing in one game, completing 3-of-8 pass attempts for 39 yards.

For his pro career, Simms has played in four games (no starts), completed 19 of 39 passes for 195 yards, a TD and an interception to go along with a passer rating of 61.4.
