Jets Release Seven Players

The New York Jets announced the release of seven players Saturday night ahead of the deadline for teams to get down to 75 players.

Among the players cut were: OT Bruce Campbell, LB Steele Divitto, OL Patrick Ford, K Andrew Furney, P Jacob Schum, RB Michael Smith and OL Markus Zusevics.

Campbell, 26, is probably the most notable player in this group. He signed with the Jets a few weeks ago and is a former fourth-round selection of the Oakland Raiders.

Earlier in this offseason, he appeared to have signed a deal with the Redskins, however the agreement was later voided. Campbell actually tried out for the Jets back in June, but he left without a contract.

Smith, 26, is a former seventh-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2012. The Jets signed him to a contract at the start of August, but he was a long-shot to make the team given New York’s running back depth.
