The New York Jets announced Thursday that they’ve released veteran OT Breno Giacomini.
Giacomini, 31, is a former fifth-round pick of the Packers back in 2008. He was signed off of the Packers’ practice squad in 2010 by the Seahawks and spent four years in Seattle before joining the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in 2014.
Giacomini was entering final year of his four-year, $18 million contract that included $7 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $4.5 million for the 2017 season.
According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Giacomini will free up $4.5 million of available cap space while creating $625,000 in dead money.
In 2016, Giacomini was limited to appear in just five games for the Jets and later finished out the year on injured reserve with a back injury.
