Jets Reportedly Discussing A Contract Extension With TE Jeff Cumberland

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets are in discussions with impending free agent TE Jeff Cumberland.

According to Mehta, the Jets are “bullish on Cumberland’s ability to take the next step in his fifth season.”

Mehta also mentions that North Carolina TE Eric Ebron could be an option for them in the first-round of this year’s NFL Draft.

Cumberland, 26, will be an unrestricted free agent in a matter of weeks and could be value option for team’s looking to add some depth at tight end.

In 2013, he caught 26 passes for 398 yards and four touchdowns over the course of 15 games. According to Pro Football Focus, Cumberland was an above average receiving tight end, although he struggled considerably in regards to blocking.
