Report: No Deal Between The Jets & Jacoby Ford As Of Now

Update:

Alex Marvez of Fox Sports reports that although free agent WR Jacoby Ford met with Jets on Monday, no deal has been reached.

  • Marvez adds that Ford is still in the market for a new team, despite reports that mentioned a deal could be close with the Jets.

Ford, 26, was a fourth-round pick of the Raiders out of Clemson back in 2010. He is a classic Al Davis-pick given that he has a track background and posted a 4.28 forty at the 2010 Scouting Combine.

However, Ford has yet to develop into a reliable weapon as a receiver. Last year, he appeared in 14 games for the Raiders and caught just 13 receptions for 99 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

Ford wound up being a healthy scratch for the Raiders’ final two games of the season.

It’s worth noting that Ford was the worst rated kicker returner in the league last year, according to Pro Football Focus.

Jayson Braddock reports that free agent WR Jacoby Ford is taking a physical for the Jets and expected to sign with them today.

  • Brian Costello of the New York Post reported earlier in the day that the Jets have shown interest in Ford.
  • Costello mentions that current Jets receives coach Sanjay Lal was with Oakland a few years ago, so he’s familiar with what Ford has to offer.

The Jets are reportedly interested in adding another receiver to their roster, but it seems more likely that they see Ford as a kick returner than a receiver they could rely on moving forward.
