Jets Refuse Budge On Their Offer To QB Ryan Fitzpatrick

Update:

Jason Cole of B/R reports that the Jets refuse to budge on what they’re willing to pay QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in a new deal.

According to Cole, the Jets do not view Fitzpatrick as their long-term quarterback, and do not want to commit that kind of money to him, especially in regards to guarantees.

Cole mentions that Fitzpatrick needs another team to get involved in the bidding with him order to push the Jets to boost their offer.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the Broncos lost Brock Osweiler to the Texans and are now in need of a new quarterback. Fitzpatrick has come up as a speculative option for them, but we’ll have to see if anything comes of this.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Jets and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick are “nowhere close to an agreement” on a new contract.

  • Schefter adds that no deal between the two parties is expected anytime soon.
  • Ian Rapoport reports that Fitzpatrick plans to see what offers are available on the open market.

It’s been speculated that the new two-year, $36 million contract signed by Eagles QB Sam Bradford will likely impact contract talks between Fitzpatrick and the Jets.

Fitzpatrick, 32, played out the final year of his two-year, $7.5 million contract that included $4 million guaranteed and is now in position to secure a sizable raise in the coming days as one of the best quarterbacks in this year’s market.

In 2015, Fitzpatrick threw for 3,905 yards while completing 59.6 percent of his passes to go along with 31 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has Fitzpatrick rated as the No. 27 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.
