Jets Set To Begin Contract Talks With S Marcus Gilchrist

Darryl Slater of nj.com, citing a league source, reports that the Jets areĀ either “negotiating a contract with free agent safety Marcus Gilchrist, or plan to begin doing so shortly.”

  • Slater adds however that Gilchrist’s camp has scheduled a visit with another team in case an agreement with the Jets is not reached.
  • Slater also notes that Gilchrist’s visit with the Jets began Tuesday, and extended into Wednesday.

Gilchrist, 26, was drafted by the Chargers in the second round of the 2011 draft. He has spent his entire career in San Diego.

The Jets have been actively looking at safeties to pair with Calvin Pryor, and have been linked with S Ron Parker as well.

Pro Football Focus ranked Gilchrist as the No.72 safety out of 87 qualifying players.
