Jets Sign DE Courtney Upshaw, Waive DL Chris Jones

The New York Jets announced that they’ve signed DE Courtney Upshaw to a contract on Thursday and placed DL Chris Jones on waivers.

Upshaw, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Ravens back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract with the team before signing a one-year contract with the Falcons in 2016.

Last year, the Falcons brought Upshaw back on another one-year deal and he’s once again testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

In 2017, Upshaw appeared in 13 games for the Falcons and recorded nine tackles, one sack and a forced fumble.

Jones, 27, is a former sixth-round pick of the Texans back in 2013. He lasted just a few months in Houston before he was waived and later claimed off of waivers by the Patriots.

After one year in New England, Jones was claimed off of waivers shortly before last year’s draft, this time by the Dolphins. Unfortunately, Miami waived him as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players but would later bring him back.

Jones wound up finishing out the 2016 season in San Francisco after the 49ers grabbed him off of waivers and he returned to the 49ers last year on a one-year deal. The Jets just recently signed Jones to a contract.

In 2017, Jones appeared in 13 games for the Dolphins and 49ers and recorded 23 tackles and no sacks.
