Jets Sign DE Shelby Harris, Waive DE Lawrence Okoye

The New York Jets announced Wednesday that they’ve signed DE Shelby Harris and placed DE Lawrence Okoye on waivers.

Harris, 24, is a former seventh-round pick of the Raiders back in 2014. He’s been on an off of their practice squad over the past two years, but returned to the Raiders on a one-year, exclusive rights deal in April.

Unfortunately, the Raiders waived Harris just a few weeks ago to make room for undrafted rookies.

In 2015, Harris appeared in seven games and recorded 12 tackles and a sack for the Raiders.

Okoye, 24, originally signed on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent back in 2013. He was considered to be a developmental project, seeing as he was a former rugby and track star.

Okoye spent a little over two years in San Francisco before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later added to the Cardinals practice squad.

The Jets elected to make Okoye an offensive lineman upon adding him to their practice squad last year and brought him back on a future/reserve contract in January.

Okoye has yet to appear in an NFL game.
