Jets Sign Fourth-Round Pick OL Dakota Dozier

The New York Jets announced that they have signed fourth-round pick OL Dakota Dozier.

The Furman product has experience at left tackle and guard, though he primarily played the tackle position.  Dozier has stated that he is receptive to playing guard.

I’ve really enjoyed it,” Dozier said via newyorkjets.com. “My O-line coach at Furman, Coach [Scott] Smouse, he made us learn all assignments at all of the positions, not just tackle, so I already knew all of the guard stuff and was able to play our last two playoff games at guard.

It seems likely that Dozier will be tried as a guard, at least initially.  The Jets brought in OT Breno Giacomini to replace OL Austin Howard, and still have LT D’Brickashaw Ferguson.  They made no significant additions at guard, but did retain Willie Colon.

Dozier could initially prove valuable as a swing lineman, capable of playing multiple positions along the line.
