Jets Sign WR Kenbrell Thompkins, Waive/Injured S Doug Middleton

The New York Jets announced Wednesday that they’ve signed WR Kenbrell Thompkins and waived S Doug Middleton with an injury designation.

Should Middleton pass through waivers unclaimed, he would revert to the team’s injured reserve list on Wednesday.

Thompkins, 28, signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati back in 2013. He was able to make the Patriots 53-man roster coming out of the preseason, but released a few months into of the 2014 regular season.

The Raiders wound up claiming Thompkins off of waivers, but he was unfortunately among their final roster cuts. Thompkins briefly returned to the Patriots before signing to the Jets’ practice squad midseason.

The Jets waived Thompkins with an injury designation coming out of the preseason and cut him with an injury settlement a few weeks later.

In 2015, Thompkins appeared in seven games and caught 17 passes for 165 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
