Jets Sign Ryan Fitzpatrick To Fully Guaranteed One-Year, $12M Deal

Adam Schefter reports that the Jets and Ryan Fitzpatrick have agreed on a one-year, $12 million contract that’s fully guaranteed.

  • Schefter adds that Fitzpatrick’s new deal includes another $3 million available in incentives.
  • Jeff Darlington reports that the Jets imposed a 7pm EST deadline to sign the deal or it was off. According to Darlington, Fitzpatrick arrived at the facility just in time.
  • Jason Fitzgerald points out that the Jets will need to rework a contract or add voidable years to the contract to fit Fitzpatrick in their current cap situation.

This news comes just minutes after Ian Rapoport reported that contract talks were heating up between the Jets and Fitzpatrick.

The two sides were expected to push for an agreement before the start of training camp on Thursday, and it looks like they managed to get it done in time.

Fitzpatrick will get one more opportunity to boost his value before testing the open market again in 2017.

Fitzpatrick, 32, played out the final year of his two-year, $7.5 million contract that included $4 million guaranteed and was the best quarterback still available in this year’s market.

In 2015, Fitzpatrick threw for 3,905 yards while completing 59.6 percent of his passes to go along with 31 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has Fitzpatrick rated as the No. 27 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.
