Jets Sign Sixth-Round Pick CB Brandon Dixon

The New York Jets announced the signing of sixth-round pick CB Brandon Dixon.

The Jets have all of their draft picks under contract except first-round pick S Calvin Pryor and third-round pick CB Dexter McDougle.

Dixon’s four-year contract is worth an estimated $2,323,864, with a signing bonus of $103,864 according to OverTheCap.com.

Dixon is a small school product, having played at Division II Northwest Missouri State.  He opened eyes at the NFL Combine with a 4.41 forty, a very good time particularly for a player his size (5’11 203 pounds).

The Jets have undergone a series of changes at the cornerback position this offseason-most notably releasing Antonio Cromartie and signing Dimitri Patterson.

Head Coach Rex Ryan seems to believe that Dixon can compete for time in a fluid secondary, praising his competitiveness among other qualities.

At his school, wow, it was zero coverage or cover-one,” said Rex Ryan, via newyorkjets.com. “So he’s got the guts, I’ll tell you that. He’s played it. The measurables, he’s got size, he’s got speed, and the thing that I was impressed with when you saw all the scouts’ and the coaches’ grades, it was competitiveness.
