Jets Sign WR Charles Johnson

The New York Jets announced Monday that they’ve signed former Vikings and Panthers WR Charles Johnson to a contract.

Johnson actually tried out for the Jets a few weeks ago so this isn’t a big surprise.

Johnson, 30, originally signed on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Grand Valley State back in 2013. He had a brief stint with the Browns before the Vikings signed him off of their practice squad at the start of the 2014 season.

The Panthers signed Johnson to a one-year, $2.2 million contract in 2017 but he was placed on injured reserve in July and eventually cut loose in February.

In his last NFL action in 2016, Johnson appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and caught 20 passes for 232 yards receiving and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 90 receiver out of 115 qualifying players that season.
