Future/reserve contracts are essentially an opportunity for players compete for a roster spot in offseason workouts and during training camp.

Hammond, 26, originally signed on with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2013. He spent his rookie year on the Chiefs’ practice squad and later returned to the team on a futures deal.

Kansas City elected to bring Hammond back on an exclusive rights deal in 2015 but he was later cut loose at the start of the 2016 season and signed to their practice squad.

In 2015, Hammond appeared in nine games for the Chiefs and totaled 115 punt return yards and no receptions.
