Jets Starting QB Michael Vick In Week 9

Jets HC Rex Ryan announced Monday that they are making a change at quarterback and will give Michael Vick the start against the Chiefs.

  • Ryan stressed that this is not a long-term decision.

All indications were that a change was coming after Geno Smith was benched in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Bills after throwing three interceptions.

Vick stepped in for Smith and completed 18-of-36 passes for 152 yards and an interception while adding 69 yards rushing on eight carries. He did, however, lose two fumbles and was sacked four times.

The big question, of course, is whether Smith will ever get another opportunity with the Jets. There has been growing speculation that the team will ultimately move on after the season.

It will be interesting to see if Vick is able to do more against the Chiefs after getting a full week of reps with the first-team offense.

Vick, 34, signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Jets back in March, but hasn’t been all that effective in limited playing time.
